    • We don’t know the heart
    • But we do know what people confess
Nicholas Kristof on April 15th in the NY Times, did an interview with former President Jimmy Carter.
Mr. Kristof:  What about someone like me whose faith is in the Sermon on the Mount, who aspires to follow Jesus’ teachings, but is skeptical that he was born of a virgin, walked on water, multiplied loaves and fishes or had a physical resurrection? Am I a Christian, President Carter?
    • Jesus spoke for 3 chapters – Chapters 5, 6, 7
        • I doubt Mr. Kristof believes all of it
        • How would you answer Mr. Kristof’s question?
        • Is he a Christian?
    • Will you shy away from the Gospel to be liked by the world?
    1.  No and wait for a follow-up
    2. Answer a question with a question
    3. Answer with a statement
President Carter: “I do not judge whether someone else is a Christian. Jesus said, “Judge not, …” I try to apply the teachings of Jesus in my own life, often without success.”
Mr. Kristof:  One of my problems with evangelicalism is that it normally argues that one can be saved only through a personal relationship with Jesus, which seems to consign Gandhi to hell. Do you believe that?
President Carter:  I do not feel qualified to make a judgment. I am inclined to give him (or others) the benefit of any doubt.
    • What if your child is sinning?
        • What if you committed the same sin?
        • BUT, now you know it is a sin
    • Do you NOT tell your child they are sinning?
        • What is your reason?
        • Is it to condemn your child?
            • Is it to save your child?
    • Perfectly okay for a previous drug addict to say how it ruined their life
    • Bootcamps for trouble children who visit prison
        • DON’T DO WHAT I DID
        • Secular judgement is okay
        • If the Christian always says, Judge not??? – No Gospel!
    • 1Jn 4:1  Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits
1 Peter 4:18 ESV  And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
    • We don’t warn to condemn
    • We warn to deliver the Gospel
Read Hebrews 10
Hebrews 10:31 ESV  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
1 Peter 4:19 ESV  Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.
    • Once again, if we suffer it IS God’s will
    • There is no such thing as good or bad luck or chance
    • Remember we are not talking about common suffering
        • Common suffering also molds us BUT
            • WE ARE TO Suffer for the name of Christ
            • The Spirit of God rests upon us
            • We are closest to God when we suffer
