Sermon Notes
Matthew 28:5-6 ESV
    • What is the meaning of the resurrection?
        • JUST a story we celebrate once a year?
            • This affects you personally
            • Christ is risen!!!
                • Victory cry!
                • Victory over what?  (Sin & Death)
    • Why talk about sin & death
        • Doom and gloom church?
            • What was the apostles attitude before Resurrection?
            • How can you have victory, if there is no enemy?
            • What are you saved from?
                • Minimize sin
                    • Sin xyz – Everyone does it
                    • No one is perfect
Matthew 12:36 ESV
    • What’s the point if there is no resurrection?
        • Carl Sagan- Cosmos A Personal Voyage
            • The Cosmos is all that is, or was, or ever will be.
            • No definite proof there is a God (died 1996)
        • Paul sarcastically said:
1 Corinthians 15:32 ESV …If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
    • This is the mindset of the unbeliever
        • Live it up now, you only have one life!
****  Romans 4:25 ESV  [JESUS] was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
Dear Christian,
    • Our trespasses = our sins
    • Imputed to His account
        • He paid it in full
        • You owe us money – No I don’t – The bill was paid.
            • The accuser says your worthless
            • He says you cannot enter
    • Oh, but Jesus was raised!
        • We do not fear death, only God
        • The resurrection is PROOF of payment in FULL
        • He was raised for our justification
    • Justification – the action of declaring or making one righteous in the sight of God.
1 Corinthians 15:21-22 ESV  For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.  (22)  For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
    • It says “in Adam” all die
        • Every man woman or child is born in Adam
        • Spiritual Death
        • Physical Death
    • It says “in Christ” shall all be made alive.
        • Who are in Christ?
        • Those born again (read John 3)
            • Born of the Spirit
            • Born from above
        • You become spiritually alive now!
    • This is the resurrection of the dead
            • Not just a bodily resurrection
            • We are quickened, made alive
How did the Apostles preach OUTSIDE the church?
Acts 2:32-39 ESV
Acts 3:14-15 ESV
Acts 5:30-33 ESV
Peter speaks of the resurrection
        • He has overcome!
    • He tells them of their sin
        • They were either grieved or enraged!
    • Repent and be baptized
        • Some repented and some fought against them.
            • The second sermon landed them in prison
            • Peter didn’t wonder why some believed and some didn’t
    • Does the Bible tell us who repents and who does not?
Acts 2:39 everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself
2Pe 1:10  Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election
    • Many may hear the external call
        • Not all come
        • Why?
        • Jesus answers this question
John 6:36-40 ESV  But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe.
    • Why don’t they believe?
        • They have seen and heard Jesus Himself!
        • All the miracles
        • All the wisdom and truth
    • Jesus tells them why they don’t believe
    • It doesn’t get any clearer than this
    • How many come?  All given by the Father
      1. Truth (no matter how much you dislike it)
          1. Called, calling, chosen, chose, predestined, election, His people, His sheep, The ones the Father gives…
          2. The death burial and resurrection accomplished what He wanted it to accomplish.
      2. God is fully glorified!
          1. God did not try to save His people – He saved them
          2. This is NOT just a plan to save
          3. This is a promise to save ALL the father gives
          4. If you walk away from God, you are frustrating his plan?
              1. Your Son died for one less than you planned?
      3. Nothing can stop God’s will!
          1. He will accomplish His purpose
          2. His resurrection TRULY justifies
      4. Not by our works or our hands
          1. Dead
          2. New heart
Stephen’s Sermon
Acts 7:41 ESV  And they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and were rejoicing in the works of their hands.
    • Not many people are making golden calf’s today
    • There are a lot of people rejoicing in the works of their hands
    • We do not rejoice in our works
        • Our decisions
    • We were dead in Adam and made alive in Christ
    • It’s the power of the Holy Spirit – through the gospel!
        • This is being born again!
    • If you are a Christian believing in Christ, you have:
    •  Eternal life and justification through the resurrection
    • You can STAND FIRM on the promises of God
        • Your resolve may waiver
        • Your strength may cause you to stumble
        • But we don’t rely on our strength or our resolve!
        • Our faith is in Jesus Christ not ourselves
            • His resurrection
Zephaniah 3:17 ESV
    • It doesn’t say he may it says he will!
    • The resurrection is a notice that goes out to the world, PAID IN FULL
How did they preach INSIDE the church?
1 Corinthians 15:55-58 ESV
Stand Firm
Philippians 3:9-11 ESV
Where is the power?
The power is in His resurrection
Any power we have comes from God
    • To preach the resurrection is to preach freedom!
    • Freedom from what, sin and death
    • Justification from wrath and judgement
    • He doesn’t try to save, he saves
    • Therefore we stand firm
Colossians 3:1-3 ESV
