- Look at some of the questions from Chapter 7?
- Who is Jesus?
- What about the signs he does?
- How is he so smart, without studying?
- Is this a prophet?
- Is this the Christ?
- Where does the Christ come from?
- Will the Christ come out of Galilee?
- Many, many questions…???
- Who is Jesus?
- Knowledge has increased today
- We have the full story, life, death burial and resurrection
- We have the apostles teaching
- In the US, all of this is easily accessible
- Bibles upon Bibles
- Bibles on the internet
- Audio Bibles
- Bible teaching on TV
- Most people have, Bibles on their cell phones
- Yet! Many are still unsure who Jesus is!
- Knowledge is important but it’s NOT everything!
- You can be VERY knowledgeable and reject Christ
- Poll: 50-60% of US college professors claim Christianity.
- Only 5.7% of of these professors believe the Bible is the actual Word of God.
- So why do we study the Bible?
- We believe it is the actual word of God!
- We study chapter by chapter
- Verse by verse
- Word by word!
- Is there any part of the Word of God that is UNIMPORTANT?
- Look what Jesus said in chapter 6
- We believe it is the actual word of God!
John 6:63
The words of Jesus are life!
What about chapter 5?
John 5:39
- What is the key to knowing who Jesus is?
- Is the KEY studying the scriptures? No
- The Spirit is the key!
- So why study?
- What do keys do?
- Keys unlock something
- The Spirit unlocks the Words of Christ!
- The Spirit opens our minds to see God!
WHERE GOD and MAN MEET
(15) …”How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”
(46) …”No man ever spoke like this Man!”
VS.
Mark 13:32
What do we do with this?
- Is there something Jesus didn’t know?
- How does Jesus have the vast knowledge that he has?
- Divine: He knows the thoughts and hearts of men
- Human: He gets thirsty, hungry and feels pain, weeps and there was at least one thing not revealed to his humanity.
- PUZZLING
- RC SPROUL – sermon
- Did he know and just not say?
- If he speaks all truth; knows but says he didn’t know, truth???
- He could have said, it’s not for you to know.
- How can this be?
JESUS WASN’T BORN A FULL GROWN MAN
- Jesus didn’t just appear out of the air.
John 7:27 NKJV
- He grew in size and wisdom
Luke 2:52 NKJV
Jesus submitted his will to the father
What the father sent him to speak he spoke
His divinity communicated to his humanity
John 7:16-18 NKJV
If God said this to Moses, how much more Christ – Exodus 4:12 NKJV Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”
WHAT ABOUT HIS WILL?
- Not my will but thy will, perfect submission
Was Christ really tempted?
James 1:13 NKJV
Yes, he was tempted
He had to pass, what Adam failed
The sins of the guilty, were put on the innocent
Hebrews 4:15 NKJV
YET WITHOUT SIN
Hebrews 4:16 NKJV
Chapter 7 asks, who is this Jesus, is he the Christ?
London Baptist Confession of Faith (1689):
so that two whole, perfect, and distinct natures were inseparably joined together in one person, without conversion, composition, or confusion; which person is very God and very man, yet one Christ, the only mediator between God and man.
WHERE GOD and MAN MEET
Christ is the FOCAL point where we can meet God and not die
