        1. We are forgetful – prone to wander
        2. Our adversary does not rest
        3. The world does not stop influencing us
        • The Colossians received Christ and Paul still warns them (8)
    • 4.  The warning

        • We must be on continuous guard
        • Ready for battle
        • Full amour of God
    • Philosophy
        • Not all science, art, or all philosophy
        • God has given us reason and thought, natural laws
        • Fools – BOASTING IN INGORANCE –
        • Wrong thinking, wrong starting point
        • Systems not grounded on truth – all truth comes from God

1 Timothy 6:20 ESV

Acts 15:1 ESV

Romans 1:22 ESV

    • Human tradition
        • We want a system, a checklist, we want to add something
            • We receive Christ by faith, not works
                • As a wine skin filled with wine –
                    • The one filling performs the action
                    • We receive – – – Christ becomes ours
                    • Our accepting Christ is a reaction to being filled
                • We must not add man’s work [circumcision]
                • We devise many systems, programs, steps and levels

Exodus 20:25 NASB
    • Paul warns against focusing on other things “not according to Christ”
        • Interesting how Paul describes Christ
        • 1. Christ, 2. Jesus, 3. the Lord
            • Judas, never called Jesus Lord, but rabbi – teacher
            • Danger of not receiving the true Christ

    • 1.  As you received Christ Jesus the Lord

Christ anointed one, To consecrate, set apart for God’s use
The Messiah – meaning the savior of God, the Christ
    • Kings, prophets and priests were set apart or consecrated
    • Jesus Christ is all three of these to us
    • The people are looking for the Christ, not A Christ

Matthew 1:16 NASB
John 1:20- NASB

Jesus = ‘Jehovah is salvation
Joshua – Successor to Moses, who led the people into the promised land

Matthew 1:21 NASB
    • The world wants the man named Barabbas
    • Barabbas = son of a father or master

Matthew 27:17 NASB
Luke 23:25 ESV
    • Notice the natural fallen will of man
        • They chose a murder over an innocent man
    • Son of a father [Barabbas] vs. Son of God [Jesus]

Mar_3:11
Luk_1:35
Mark 1:1 NASB
***Luk_3:38

    • 1st Adam & the 2nd Adam
        • 1st Adam failed, Jesus Christ succeeded
        • 1st Adam was created
        • 2nd Adam [Jesus] was born of the virgin Mary – Her offspring
        • 2nd Adam [Jesus] was not created but eternally God

(9)  For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,
    • The invisible God was made manifest in the flesh
    • Jesus testified to his OWN deity

John 8:58-59 ESV
John 8:24 ESV

    • You must receive Christ as who He is!

Christ Jesus the Lord

    • Lord – (supremacy); supreme in authority,
        • a respectful title- God, Lord, master
    • The Septuagint – Before Christ
        • Many of the NT quotes come from the Septuagint
        • Lord – Kurious in Greek
        • This word Lord – Kurious, is used to describe God
            • H136 adonai

Jesus speaking of His return:
Matthew 24:42 NASB
1 Corinthians 4:5 NASB
        • Now that we receive, we cling to Christ
            • We don’t just receive eternal life
            • Not just the teaching of Christ
            • Not just the benefits of Christ
                • But Christ himself

so walk in him   2. A command to walk – Not a suggestion

    • Wait!!!  How do we walk in him?
        • 2 analogies
            • Tree and it’s roots
            • A building with a strong foundation

Psalms 1:3 ESV

built up in him

Matthew 7:24-25 ESV
    • The roots must go down before the tree can go up
        • Continuous study of God’s Word with prayer
        • Sound Biblical exegesis of the whole council of God
            • Preachers and teachers MUST do their job

just as you were taught,

    • Paul didn’t visit Colossae
    • Col 1:7  just as you learned it from Epaphras
        • Doctrine of men vs. sound doctrine
        • Very dangerous to throw out doctrine
        • Biblical doctrine is thrown out as doctrine of men

1 Timothy 1:3 ESV  …
2 Thessalonians 2:15 ESV
2 Thessalonians 3:6 ESV

    1. As you received Christ Jesus the Lord
    2. A command to walk
    3. How to walk
    4. A warning
    5. Declaration of the deity of Christ

    • Receiving Christ Jesus the Lord – Not complicated
        • Continuous assaults against the truth
        • Our opponent is the father of lies
    • Commanded to walk
        • Cannot walk unless we have a strong foundation
    • Warning
        • Very serious military terminology
