    • The great divide is NOW!
    • Millions of Christians who are not of one mind
        • Facade of unity
        • Sermons and teachings are shallow
            • Lest we offend someone
            • We need to worry about offending the Lord

    • Admit when we don’t know something
    • The Lord is for the righteous
    • The Lord is against the wicked

    • Peter is quoting from Psalm 34
Psalms 34:9-22 ESV
(19)  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
    • What does, “but the LORD delivers him out of them all” mean?
        • Lots of people are persecuted for Christ
        • The martyrs
        • In what since does the Lord deliver?
Psalm 34:22)  This comes back to fearing the Lord.
Matthew 10:28 ESV
We have peace with God, Christ has broken down “the dividing wall of hostility”
Faith does not promise us length of days, riches and honors (the Lord not having been pleased that any of these should be appointed us); but is contented with the assurance, that however poor we may be in regard to present comforts, God will never fail us. The chief security lies in the expectation of future life, which is placed beyond doubt by the word of God. Whatever be the miseries and calamities which await the children of God in this world, they cannot make his favor cease to be complete happiness.  Calvin, John. Institutes of the Christian Religion
    • The hope that is within you?
        • The world is crashing down and you have hope!
    • Apologia – Apologetics – to make a defense.
        • What do you believe?
        • Where is your hope?
        • Why do you believe what you believe?
    • With gentleness and respect
        • Why are people hostile?
            • Emotion and passion is good, but that’s not all we have!
                • We have TRUTH
            • Pure emotional defense is from a lack of TRUTH
Hosea 4:6 ESV
    • Not the gospel of today – Me, me, me!!!
    • If that should be God’s will?
    • (22)  The LORD redeems the life of his servants
Unity around truth
Compassion for one another
Fear the Lord and not man
